    Dear PlugPDF Team,

we are using your android library in an exhibition. The main purpose of this installation is displaying newspapers and magazines on Tablets (Outform iDisplays, http://outform.com/).
In most cases, your software works really good – I especially liked it how simple it was to integrate and modify. Unfortunately we have sometimes performance issues – some sites are loading several seconds (10-20) until the page was visible.
In short words, i am loading PDF files from an http resource into a local directory, where PlugPDF is loading it from.

    Here is the relevant code:

    In the Activity onCreate:

    After downloading the file:

    android:largeHeap="true"
is activated for my Android project (because this is the only running application on the device). That helped against OutOfMemoryErrors in the past, but there is still the performance issue. Can i tweak PlugPDF at some points to get the page faster displayed?
Here you can download a sample PDF if you want to test it.

    Thanks in advance,
    Lukas

    Hi Lukas,

Thank you for your interest for PlugPDF and your PDF. I have tried test with your PDF and source. But my device is not slow when opening the PDF or swiping the page. Did you now download PDF via http?

    Thank you,
    Dr. Plug

    Thanks for your reply,

i do actually a download via http BEFORE i open it with PlugPDF. So the process is completely offline.
It is actually not about responsiveness, but the loding circle stays about 10 seconds on some pages, before the page is displayed.

Another approach: can i show a slow-res-version during the loading process or can in see anywhere the progress and show a progressbar or anything similar? That would help a lot.

    Thanks,
    Lukas

    Hi Lukas,

Thank you for your feedback. Then, you how to download PDF file? and you call ‘openFile(…)’ of the ReaderView after download?
Actually, our SDK provide ‘openUrl(…)’ method in the ReaderView class, it download via http and open document with progress bar. Please check it. 🙂

    Thank you,
    Dr. Plug
